486 Deluxe

486 Deluxe is the podcast where I review late era MS-DOS and early era Windows games.

You can tune in at: 486 Deluxe (a member of the Commodore Chronicles Family of Podcasts)

In 1995, my family acquired an AST Advantage Adventure 6066d.  A 486DX2/66 IBM PC compatible that ran Windows 95.  It replaced our Tandy 1000EX and Commodore 64 on our home computer desk.

My friends all had tons of games that we traded, copied and crack to run without a disc.  We played Wolfenstein 3D, Descent, both NASCAR and Indycar Racing, The Need for Speed and dozen of great point and click adventures, include my all-time favorite game, Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle.

Today, I call the machine pictured below my 486 Deluxe "Sniffer" PC.  It is an Intel-branded 486DX2/66 machine that very closely models my childhood AST.  It was originally a network packet sniffer that had never used up until about six months ago when I purchased it.  It still had the original warning tape over the IEC power ports.
